About the musical
Unexpected stories are baked into mythic hotdish layers in this ode to Minnesota—a work of equal parts satire and sincerity. In this world, 'Ope!' moments collide with deeply suppressed feelings, Juicy Lucys are devoured as a rap battle rages, and declarations of never leaving Duluth echo quietly through the snow. The result is an absurd yet heartfelt portrait of a place where politeness masks passion—bland to outsiders, beloved to insiders, and more complicated than it appears.

The creator
Giorgio Stanza originally set out to write a musical about Minnesota as a bit of a joke—but over the years, it grew into a heartfelt celebration of the state, shaped by his life there and his eye for its rhythms and quiet idiosyncrasies.
Inspired in part by longtime A Prairie Home Companion writer Howard Mohr and his classic How to Talk Minnesotan, Stanza crafted a show that is equal parts satire and sincerity—songs that shift from folk to Broadway to something entirely unexpected, yet always feel unmistakably Minnesotan. This is his tribute to a place that rarely asks for attention but always earns affection—a portrait told with a wink, a warmth, and a deep love for its people.
